History of the Tour

The Northern Barbarians Junior Rugby Club have been touring to New Zealand since 1979. The tour takes place every other year. We invite players from the U10’s and U11’s teams to spend 10 days in New Zealand and play 3 games against 3 clubs in different areas of the North Island.

The tour is also a cultural exchange as the players are invited to experience the local communities and take part in local activities such as farming, hiking and sheep shearing.

Over the 40 years of the tour many lifelong friendships have been made between players at each club and those connections are sustained by the reciprocal tours every other year when those teams visit us to play and visit Sydney.
